Welcome to Mata Turf!

How Much Do I Need?

Here is a simple way to determine the amount of sod you will need. Most areas to be sodded can be subdivided into rectangles or triangles. For example, the irregular shaped area shown above is broken into two rectangles and one triangle.

Let us calculate how many square feet of sod would be needed:

Area a is 6 feet x 6 feet: =    36 Square Feet
Area b is 9 feet x 10 feet: =    90 Square Feet
Area c is 9 feet x 6 feet - divided by 2*: =    27 Square Feet
Sub -Total: =  153 Square Feet
Add 5 to 10% if you will use spare cut pieces =       9 Square Feet
GRAND -TOTAL: =  162 Square Feet

To convert square feet to square yards, divide the number of square feet by 9:
= 18 Square Yards

*(Remember that the area of a triangle is 1/2 of a rectangle)
